You know music is super important for kids and adults alike, but you don’t know how to get started. Maybe you are wondering how to help your shy third grader come out of their shell this school year. Or how to help your middle schooler stick with music … and actually practice. Maybe you’ve always wanted to learn to play an instrument or to sing, but worried it was “too late”. You’ve got the desire but not the know-how. I get it, and that’s where I can help.For fifteen years, I have crafted lessons for thousands of students in rural, suburban, and urban Montana. I’ve taught a kindergarten music class of four and I’ve taught eighth grade choirs of fifty-six. Elementary general music, middle school band, middle school orchestra, middle school choir, middle school jazz band, high school band, and high school choir - I have learned and grown as a musician in each discipline!
About Kara
Hi, I’m Kara! Over the course of my teaching career, I have taught elementary general music, middle school band, orchestra, and choir, and high school band and choir across Montana. I have my Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education, K-12 Broadfield from Montana State University and my Masters Degree in Music with an emphasis in Flute Performance from Washington State University. Teaching my students how to access creativity, connection, and expression through music has been my greatest joy. Now I’m here to help you do the same!My studio includes beginner, intermediate, and advanced instruction in piano, voice, woodwinds, and brass.

A central value as a private music instructor is to develop musicians who can be leaders and ambassadors of musicianship in their schools and in their community.
Pricing
I utilize a diverse range of educational tools to cater to each student's needs. I prefer to tailor my teaching approach to match the student's pace and supplement their learning with extra activities to enhance their understanding of their instrument or voice. For level two and three students, all repertoire is provided, along with an online format that helps guide students in their practice across the week.Understanding that families lead busy lives, parent attendance at lessons is not mandatory, but their presence is always welcome! As students progress, they will become more self-reliant in their practice; however, initially, active participation is key.If private lessons are still cost prohibitive, please contact me - there are a variety of other funding sources available to offset lesson costs.

Looking to keep routine in your child's summer schedule?
Sign-up now and choose a schedule that works for your family's summer plans!To ensure scheduling consistency, prepayment is required for summer lessons.
Once you've selected and scheduled your lesson days/times, please find me on Venmo, Zelle, or email me to coordinate payment by check. Lessons are $30/half hour.If a pre-paid lesson requires rescheduling, don't hesitate to reach out and we'll find an alternate time that works!Thank you for your support - working with you and your students is truly a gift for me.
